Big Hero 6
Big Hero 6 Plot
Hiro Hamada, a 14-year-old robotics genius residing in San Francisco’s futuristic city, is a 14-year-old high school graduate (a portmanteau of San Francisco & Tokyo). Hiro’s older brother Tadashi sends him to his research lab at the San Francisco Institute of Technology to keep him out of underground robot battling. Hiro meets Tadashi’s friends Go Go, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred, as well as his creation Baymax, an inflatable healthcare robot, and Professor Robert Callaghan, Tadashi’s mentor.
Hiro is inspired and applies to the university, where his invention, a swarm of small microbots that can link together in any arrangement using a neural transmitter, impresses the school’s presentation. Hiro rejects Alistair Krei’s offer to buy the microbots, and Callaghan lets him into the school. Tadashi goes inside to save Callaghan when a fire breaks out, but they are both murdered.
Hiro accidentally activates Baymax two weeks later, and they track his last remaining microbot to an abandoned warehouse, where they discover someone is mass-producing the microbots. A man dressed in a Kabuki mask assaults them with a swarm of microbots, but they manage to flee, and Hiro assumes the masked man ignited the fire to hide his theft of the microbots. Hiro outfits Baymax with armor and a chip programmed with karate moves in order to avenge his brother’s death, and they return to find the warehouse vacant. Baymax summons Tadashi’s companions, who are attacked by the masked man but manage to flee after driving into a lake. Hiro updates Baymax’s armor at Fred’s estate, and he and the others weaponize their different inventions in order to take on the masked man, whom they believe is Krei.
They follow the masked man to Krei’s abandoned island lab, which they learn was utilized for teleportation research until a test pilot went missing through a portal, prompting the government to shut down Krei’s project and seal off the island. Hiro knocks off the masked man’s mask, revealing him to be Callaghan, who used the stolen microbots to survive the fire. Hiro removes Baymax’s healthcare chip and orders him to kill Callaghan, enraged that Tadashi died for nothing, but his friends interrupt and Honey re-installs the device at the last second. Hiro flies off with Baymax to avenge Tadashi, while Callaghan flees with the microbots.
Hiro tries to remove the healthcare chip once more when they get home, but Baymax blocks his access port and shows him footage of Tadashi’s various tests during Baymax’s creation, reminding Hiro that his brother’s objective was to help others. Hiro apologizes to Baymax and his pals, and they realize Callaghan’s daughter, Abigail, was the missing test pilot. Callaghan reactivates the teleportation gate to destroy Krei and his headquarters after stealing the microbots, but Hiro, Baymax, and their friends overcome Callaghan and save Krei.
Baymax discovers Abigail alive within the portal, which Krei says is too unstable, but Hiro and Baymax leap through and discover Abigail locked in her rocket in hyper-sleep. Baymax’s engines are disabled by debris, forcing him to use his rocket fist to propel Hiro and Abigail back through the portal before it is destroyed, leaving him behind. Callaghan is arrested after Abigail regains consciousness.
Hiro arrives at campus with his buddies, only to discover Baymax’s healthcare chip clasped in the rocket fist. He rebuilds Baymax, and the two of them, together with their comrades, continue to safeguard the city as Big Hero 6, a squad of high-tech superheroes.
Fred discovers a secret superhero hideout in his family estate in a post-credits sequence and is reunited with his father, who tells him they have a lot to talk about.
